The three degree requirements for the M. In Latin American Studies include the successful completion of 36 credit hours of graduate coursework with a minimum grade point average of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale; successful completion of a language proficiency examination in Spanish or Portuguese; and successful completion of a written comprehensive examination, which may be taken after the student has successfully completed 30 credit hours of coursework.

Results of the General Test of the Graduate Record Examination are required for all native English-speaking applicants, and foreign students with degrees from colleges and universities in countries where English is the primary language. There is no minimum required score on the GRE. Applicants should allow six to eight weeks from the test date for the reporting of scores to the institution. Applications will not be considered without GRE scores.
Proficiency can be demonstrated by the receipt of a bachelor’s or advanced degree from an accredited institution of higher education in the United States or from a university where English is the primary language of instruction (please note that applicants receiving degrees at universities in the students.
