The Physical Therapy, Movement and Rehabilitation Sciences offers interprofessional coursework in disability studies available to students in all fields of study. The purpose of these courses is to educate an inter-disciplinary group of professionals to work collaboratively to create changes in the social, economic, political, educational, medical and physical environments in ways that will positively impact people with disabilities. This special e-tuition rate applies to out-of-state students enrolled in a UMaineOnline degree or certificate program. The certificate program is a progressive 9 credit graduate-level curriculum in which individuals from a variety of disciplines and professional backgrounds can study with students and professionals from other fields to acquire specialized knowledge in disability theory, policy, and research. The program is open to individuals who have obtained a baccalaureate degree, including those who seek only the certificate individuals who want to study in one or of the courses without seeking the certificate and students currently matriculated in masters and doctoral programs.

Teachers need to work to ensure equitable outcomes for English language learners (ELLs) and those with disabilities. The concentration in ELL SPED provides post-baccalaureate students with the knowledge and skills in the Professional Standards for Teachers required by the state of Massachusetts to maintain their licensure requirements for serving ELLs with or without special education needs and students with disabilities who are not English learners. Certificate courses that are taken for academic credit may be combined to earn advanced standing in one of Lasell M.Ed. programs. These courses are also available for credit as an option for teachers who may wish to earn graduate credit.
